According to the Nakuru County Finance Minister Francis Mathea, the electronic system seeks to flush out corrupt officials who use parallel ticket booklets.

“It has come to our attention that corrupt officials are using parallel ticket booklets to siphon revenue from county government,” said Mathea.

He said the launch of the digital transceivers would seal all avenues of corruption and help increase revenue collection.

“With launch of e-parking, we expect to double our revenue collections,” added Mathea.

A spot check in most streets in the town witnessed parking attendants using digital transceivers, with most of them happy about the latest development.

“We have welcomed the launch of digital transceivers because it will enhance revenue collection,” said Ann Wairimu , a parking attendant.

She supported County's Finance Minister's claim that the county government has been losing millions of shilling to corrupt officials.

“Some officers have been using fake ticket booklets to steal from money from county government and this will help a lot,” added Wairimu.

Motorists also hailed the move, saying that some parking attendants have been using dirty means to fleece them.

“Now we will be paying directly to digital transceiver and this is a good move for transparency,” said Peter Mwangi, a motorist.
