Traders in Nakuru cashed in heavily from Saturday’s celebrations of the lovers’ day, popularly known as Valentine’s Day.
The traders, who were selling goods ranging from flower bouquet, teddy bears, chocolate and wine smiled all the way to the bank, as people spent to buy loved ones gifts to appreciate them.
At Ashley events, a bouquet of red roses was going for Sh1500, with the same package costing Sh3500, if it was accompanied by wine and Swiss chocolate.
Maina Mwangi, a trader, said that he had made Sh7500 by mid morning for flower deliveries.
“I had to go back to my supplier as they were finished by ten o’clock. I’m selling one stem of a red rose for Sh150 and they are still not enough,” he added
Jecinta Nyarwai, who sells teddy bears, noted that she had already made a profit of Sh12,000 from selling the stuffed bears
“This is the best time of the year as people take time to buy and appreciate their loved ones. We make a lot of money from the sales which are beneficial to all,” she added
“On Friday was one of our peak seasons and many people were already buying the dolls. However, some are buying today to beat their last minute rush,” she added
John Maingi, who started selling chocolates and lollipops on Friday, said that he has made at least Sh3000.
“Business is doing very well. We swish every day can be valentine,” he added.
