The National Council for Persons with Disabilities has strongly condemned TSC Director of Education in Nakuru County Agnetta Kitheka for what it has claimed as a ploy to have the deputy principle of one of the schools in Nakuru who is disabled transferred to another school so that the position can be given to another person who is said to have given a bribe of Sh200,000.
This is after the council received a letter from Bahati MP Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri claiming that there was a ploy by the TSC Director of Education in Nakuru County Agnetta Kitheka to transfer the deputy head teacher of Kiamaina Secondary School John Chege to another school after allegedly receiving the bribe.
Through its Chairperson Dr. David Ole Sankok, the council has now called upon Kitheka to tender her resignation in addition to asking the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission to investigate the claims.
In addition, he has lashed out at Kitheka after claims emerged that she stated that those with disabilities should be begging at the streets.
"It is claimed that a lady by the name Agnetta Kitheka has been asking for a bribe of Sh200,000 so that a teacher can be transferred to a good school. That is corruption. We want to call upon EACC to investigate the claims. It is also alleged that Kitheka stated that she will transfer the deputy of this school who is disabled because those who are disabled ought to be at the streets," said Sankok.
Speaking to journalists at the School on Tuesday July 6 2016, Ole Sankok has assured the public the matter will be handled.
He has also disclosed that the council has already written a letter to TSC asking it to furnish the council with all the names of head teachers in the country who are disabled.
"We have already written a letter to TSC whereby we wanted to know how many disabled principles there are in the country. The constitution indicates that we must have 5 % of persons with disability in those positions. As at now TSC is at 0.8%. It is not possible for TSC to deny us chances that we are qualified for. This case will not go to parliament. We are sure that we will handle it at our level," added Sankok.
According to Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, rogue teachers have been giving bribes to be transferred to certain schools.
"The person who they want to bring here is someone who has messed other areas. It is because of corruption that he wants to be brought here from another county. The parents and students of this school have come to me saying that there will be a problem if this teacher is transferred," Ngunjir said.
Efforts by the media to reach Kitheka were futile.
