Leaders in Nakuru West now want the county government to sponsor a reconciliation and peace building meeting in the area.
Lead by Jacob Langat, a youth leader, they cited that it was important to establish peace mechanisms to protect the peace being experienced in the area.
He said that there was need to reestablish peace initiatives, which stopped after the post election violence.
“The youths need to be brought together and encouraged to start projects that will help to see peace continues in this place. We have seen people volunteering go house to house campaigning for peace even with no funds. In most cases they use their own money yet people here are not rich,” said Langat.
Joseph Towett called on the area MP Samuel Arama to initiate peace talks between the various communities living in the area.
“He is the chairman of the constituency peace committee and hence should be on the forefront for the campaigns. In fact he should be holding rallies and since he experienced first hand the post election violence he should be there to protect peace,” said Towett.
Ann chelangat pointed out that schools in the area should also introduce peace education in their curriculum.
“we should teach children to understand the importance of peace from an early age,” notes Chelangat.
