Majority of residents in Nakuru West sub-county have now turned to water kiosks and vendors as the shortage of the precious commodity continues to bite.
A spot check at the main estates in the area such as Kaptembwa, Rhonda and Shabab on Wednesday also indicated long queues at major water kiosks, an indication that the shortage was indeed real.
Kennedy Onyancha, a resident at Kaptembwa said they had been forced to buy water at exorbitant rates because the available vendors and kiosks had hiked costs.
"It is almost a week since we last had water in our taps, so we have to buy it from kiosks which are have also decided to hike costs,"he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Tabitha Juma, who lamented that they had been left to suffer at the hands of the unscrupulous water traders by the Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company.
"We want Nawassco to pump water to our taps so that this drama is ended. We are being exploited by water traders around this place," she lamented.
