Professional widows women in Nakuru have come together to form an investment welfare group aimed at empowering them financially and socially. The group,Nakuru Professional Widows Welfare Group that was unveiled today at Amani Centre in a colorful ceremony and attended by leading professional and women leaders in Nakuru will dedicate their savings in real estate and education related investments on a community level. The founding chair lady of the group Milka Gichana told the gathering of over twenty members that they should work hard and inspire other widows across the county and country at large. “By putting a message across to them that life,family and income does not end when widowhood knocks on the door.” Gichana family counselor based in Nakuru said that the welfare group that comprises of professional and working class widows drawn from all backgrounds in the county and country will invest in community based business ventures dedicated at serving common members of their respective communities. “Ours is more of a social service group because our savings and investments will be based on community levels. We will buy plots and build rental houses that common people can afford. We will build nursery, primary, and secondary schools that will benefit common people in our communities. We want to inspire other widows in the country that when that ugly word comes popping its ugly face in your life, that does not mean the end of it,’’observed Gichana.
