Members of a women group in Teachers estate in Nakuru town are smiling all the way to the bank after earning a total of a half a million shillings dividends for this year.
The treasurer of Mwangaza Progressive Women Group Serah Muhoro announced that the group had accumulated the dividends amount from its collective savings ranging from bank investments and members’ savings and interest on loans.
While distributing cheques for the dividends to the one hundred members at Calvary church grounds in Teachers estate, the treasurer further announced that the group would soon become a savings and credit co-operative society as plans to ensure that move were already underway.
“We are happy because our hard work and dedication to grow our group is paying off. We are heading to the skies because that is our only limit. We are soon going to be a sacco and our prospects will be even bigger,” Muhoro told the members amid applause.
The women group was started by fifteen members in 2005 and has since grown to be a leading women group in the area with a revolving capital of Sh5million.
The group has been involved in various community development projects in the area including nursery schools, a tailoring training centre, food stores and real estate ventures.
The group is currently working together with the Nakuru-East Constituency Development Fund committee to construct a market in the area.
