Nakuru County nominated Senator Martha Wangari has challenged women to take keen interest in matters pertaining to leadership for them to be empowered.

Senator Wangari has said that women have been given opportunities to pursue their goals through many avenues citing that the constitution has given them chance to vie for top leadership positions.

“Women should come out and claim share of the public leadership positions as provided for in the Kenyan constitution,” said Wangari.

She said that empowering women socially, politically and economically will propel development in various sectors.

Speaking in Gilgil town on Tuesday, the Senator called on women to unite and support each other.

She also said that time has come for the country to have a woman president noting that men have claimed the seat for long.

The Senator on the same note urged women to take advantage of the development funds and empower themselves saying that the development funds have been specifically set aside for women, youths and disabled person.

She called on the county government to take issues facing women seriously. She pledged to rally the Senate to formulate laws that will cater for the rights of women.
