A group of Nakuru youth has launched a peace campaign that preaches harmony as calls for a referendum from the opposition and a section of county governors intensify.

Speaking on Monday at the launch of Bahati Youth Peace Campaign at Bahati trading centre, James Kamau, the chairman of the initiative said that they have decided to use the peace campaign as a means of spreading peace throughout the county.

“We want Nakuru County to have peace during the campaign of Okoa Kenya movement,” said Kamau.

He said that the country is greater than interests of individuals and there is need for Kenyans to live in peace.

“We are not ready for the referendum. We want our country to remain as it is – in peace,” the youth leader said.

He further stated that they intend to sensitise the youth from different tribes the need to live as one community.

“We are trying to create a sense of oneness among the youth from various communities to shun the movement and give our leaders space to carry out development issues,” said Kamau.

The Raila Odinga-led Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) and the Council of Governors chairman Isaac Ruto are calling for a referendum to increase allocation of funds to county governments.
