Nakuru Cultural Group (NCG) has gone an extra mile in promotion of African culture in Nakuru County.
The Group seeks to promote African cultural identity in the wake of Western influence and intends to stem this influence.
The Group's Chairman Isaac Odour says the group, which is made of 20 youths (13 males and 7 female) make items which they sell to tourists visiting Nakuru National Park.
“Our group was formed two years ago and it is concerned with promotion of our cultural heritage. We make traditional items like African mats, Ciondos, bangles, necklaces, curvings and other items with cultural outlook,” says Odour.
Odour says that the trade is doing well owing to the fact of proximity of the National Park.
“We arrange our items at the Nakuru National Park gate from where tourists stop and buy them,” said Odour adding that even some local tourists are also attracted by items and buy them.
Odour said that the project has helped the members to put food on table and pay school fees for their children.
“This business has offered employment to our youth and I urge more youth to follow suit and start similar business because its doing well,” said Odour.
Odour urged the Nakuru County government to help them in promotion of this business.
