A Nakuru minister has urged young business people in the area to help the government fulfil its constitutional responsibilities by actively being involved in tendering contracts involving the various government departments and agencies.
Speaking during a Nakuru Small Enterprises Forum that was held at Snow Park Hotel in Nakuru town on Tuesday, Nakuru County Ministry of Trade, Industrialisation, Tourism and Wildlife Management, Chief Officer Edith Kimani, noted that the government is mandated to set aside a portion of its tender contracts to young enterprises.
She urged local youthful entrepreneurs to take advantage of the existing law provisions to empower their business enterprises.
She further noted that her ministry was actively involved in training young business people on the county government’s trade development policies that also include the provision of business opportunities to small business operators through government contracts.
“We as a ministry are dedicated towards the fulfilment of the constitution that gives young people rights and opportunities to do business with the government. It is the government’s desire to help you grow and so you must seek for contracts with the government,” said Kimani.
She challenged young entrepreneurs in Nakuru to create links and contacts with various government departments and agencies for them to get tips on tendering procedures.
