Youth leaders in Nakuru County have been urged to preach peace in their communities to enhance a peaceful co-existence among residents in the cosmopolitan region.
Speaking to youth groups representatives and committee members of the Nakuru Peace Accord in Nakuru on Saturday, the Deputy County Commissioner Justus Motanya said that the region had steadily experienced peace and co-existence since the peace accord was signed by residents after the 2007 post election violence.
"Nakuru has remained peaceful and residents have over the years since the post poll violence remained united. I encourage our youth leaders to preach peace in their communities because we do not want what happened in 2007 to repeat again,’’ said Motanya.
He added that the region was one of those that were worst hit by the violence that plunged the country after the disputed elections and residents had learned a lot of lessons from it.
At least 1000 people were killed and over 500,000 injured and displaced across the country with Rift Valley one of the worst hit area.
