Nakuru County Health Chief Officer Samuel Mwaura has urged youths to go for regular HIV and Aids tests and counseling to know and maintain their status.

Briefing journalists on Friday at his office in Nakuru town, the health official encouraged teenagers to go for regular HIV tests.

He observed that knowing ones status would enable him or her to track and maintain status.

“I want to encourage teenagers across Nakuru County to come and present themselves for regular HIV testing,” he said.

The county health officer intimated that cases of HIV are high among teenagers. He added that many teenagers do not use contraceptives yet they engage in sex.

Mwaura said that HIV remains real and a threat to development if more appropriate measures are not taken.

The health official asked parents and guardians to mentor their kids in the right direction to avoid cases of them contracting Aids.

Mwaura also asked youths to use contraceptives or abstain from sex if they want to live successful lives.

He urged the national and the county government to start campaigns that will sensitise the youths on matters sex and Aids.

The health official also called on donors and the private sector to join the fight against HIV/Aids.
