Youths in Nakuru have expressed their disappointment with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent appointment.
On Monday President Kenyatta released a list of new head of parastatals who most of them are former politicians.
The irate youths accused the president of favouring his political allies, who most of them are old, at the expense of young people.
Speaking during a youth meeting at Shaba grounds, they cited that the president was deliberately ignoring youths in his appointments.
“It is unfortunate that the president is favoring his political allies at the expense of development. They say we do not have experience but how can we get the skills when we do not have a chance,” said Dan Mwangi.
Mwangi adds that like other past regimes Uhuru’s government has chosen to work with a particular group of people.
Ephraim Njoroge cited that the reason the county was lagging behind was because the president was not willing to bring new people and fresh ideas in his administration.
“The youths are being ignored deliberately and there is nothing they can do about it. It is unfortunate that when we elected them we thought they will prioritise young people in their agenda. However, this is not the case as we have seen in the recent appointments,” said Njoroge.
Kelvin Komen says that youths should lobby a campaign to urge the president to consider young people in his government.
“We cannot continue recycling retirees while we expect to improve our lives and economies,” says Komen.
