A team of volunteer talented thespians in Nakuru are designing a series of stage comedies that are geared toward fostering institutional changes and universal adoption of social values for cohesive development of the country.
The 'Youths for Youths' initiative under the banner 'Keeping Arts and Culture Alive' is pioneered at the Nakuru Players Theater.
It seeks to use theater to engage youths and people in leadership positions in proactive causes that will avert widespread corruption among other malpractices in modern day governance.
The scripted plays, comedies and farces are slated to be showcased across the county to an average target audience that will be inspired to take a role in participatory governance in the management of devolved resources by the 47 regional governments.
"The performances will revolve around pertinent issues on governance of public resources. This will stimulate dialogue between people in leadership and other citizens for improved service delivery," Nakuru Players Theater Arts Manager Babuche Mwangi said.
Speaking on Monday at the facility, Mwangi said the six-month program will begin next week and will culminate into the official re-launch of the Nakuru Players Theater later this year upon completion of Sh15 million renovation works funded by the Nakuru county government.
Youths engaged in the program will also acquire new skills in various aspects of theater like on-stage directing, stage lighting, photography and sound management for theatre in what the Arts manager says will spur them to more lucrative domestic and foreign markets.
