The county government of Nakuru has plans to start converting waste at Gioto dumping site into clean energy in line with it's policy to help stop pollution and endangering human life in the area.
Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has assured residents living around areas nearing Gioto dumping site of his government's focus and commitment in managing the spilling waste from the site.
While touring the Gioto dump site where he was accompanied by the CeC for Environment Richard Rop and Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama, Kinuthia discussed at length with the residents from around the area on what should be done to manage the spilling waste and also got their views on what measures ought to be taken to ensure that the site does not pose any danger to them.
He stated that the county government will increase the capacity of the county machinery used to manage the dumpsite as it races to finalise on a long-term plan to solve the dumping menace.
For the long term solution, the county is planning on working towards making use of the waste to reduce it and to also convert it to various forms of energy, a process that will help in the generation of clean energy
"The long-standing challenges with waste management in the county should be a thing of the past" said Mr Mbugua amidst cheers from the local residents who expressed their concern over the issue .
