The Nakuru based Hyrax Hill Pre-historic Site and Museum has launched a Seed Repository Project that aims at enriching research and other services being offered at the museum. According to the Museum’s Assistant Curator in charge of public relations and education Zakayos Akwaro the project will involve harvesting, treating ,labeling and storing in a repository a variety of trees, shrubs and herbs that are present at the site’s natural environment. “You note that the site has a variety of indigenous vegetation that is unique. We realized that there is a need for us to establish a repository of the seeds of some of this botanical species to aid research and attract more visitors,’’said Akwaro. He added that the project will go hand in hand with an establishment of a tree and flower breeding project that will not only generate income for the museum but also enrich the floral landscape at the site. Already the site that receives an average of 3000 visitors both local and foreign visitors runs a tortoise farming project that aims at conserving Tortoise species in the locality as well as enhancing research and tourism attraction at the museum.
