Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren has appealed to the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri to move with speed and name the cartels in his Ministry.
Tiren speaking on Monday in Eldoret town said farmers from the North Rift region incurred losses after the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) officials refused to buy maize from farmers but favored cartels who purchased maize from outside the country to sell to the government.
“Kiunjuri should not fear anybody. Let him list down all the names of the cartels who interfered with the purchase of maize and pocketed money illegally leaving farmers suffering losses,” he said.
The MP said corruption should not be condoned by the government and any state official engaging in corruption and dubious dealings must be arrested and prosecuted in a court of law.
“Kiunjuri should work around the clock to clean up the Ministry of Agriculture and ensure farmers across the country sells their produce especially maize to the government and not giving priority to the cartels and private businesspeople to buy maize from foreign countries to sell to the government yet we have a good number of farmers in this country to sell maize to the government,” he added.
