Uasin Gishu County Assembly leader of majority Josphat Lowoi has called for the remaining of Eldoret town streets, roads, and avenues for people well known to the locals.

The Karuna/Mibeki MCA expressed concerns that some of the streets in the town had been named after people they don't know.

Speaking during Jamhuri day celebrations at 64 stadium, Lowoi said the county government through the department of culture should table proposed new names of the county's capital streets.

"Some streets in our town has been named after people we don't know what their history is all about. Its time we renamed them after our very own people whom we can relate to like governor Mandago," Lowoi said.

"As an assembly, we are ready and willing to approve the change of names to the streets and we ask the department of culture to fast track this process and bring the names to the assembly for our approval," he added.

Eldoret town boasts of being home to great sportsmen and women but none of the roads or streets have been named after any of them.
