Deputy President William Ruto’s quest to occupy Statehouse in 2022 seems to have received a major backing after members allied to the NASA coalition said they will support his bid.
Led by leaders from the Coast region, the MPs said Ruto will be better placed to lead the country after President Kenyatta exits the scene.
They included Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja and MPs Ali Mbogo (Kisauni) Aisha Jumwa (Malindi), Jones Mlolwa (Voi), and Danson Mwashako (Wundanyi).“When 2022 comes, the president will be William Samoei Ruto,” said Governor Samboja, who was elected on a Wiper ticket.
Aisha Jumwa, who has in the past attacked the Jubilee administration, said in a shocking revelation that she will stand by the deputy president in 2022.
“Let us be honest with each other. We cannot stop an idea whose time has come. In 2022, God willing, it will be William Ruto,” said Jumwa.
“The only person we know as a candidate for the 2022 presidential race is William Ruto,” said Ali Mbogo, who was representing the Chair of the Coast Parliamentary Group.
The leaders further promised to work with the Jubilee administration to achieve maximum development for Kenyans.
“We shall support you (government) in ensuring Jubilee achieves the Big Four development agenda. What happened is water under the bridge. We must accept change and support our leaders who have decided to unite for the sake of the country,” added Jumwa.
