Among those present at the grounds included football legends Joe Kadenge, Mohamud Abbas and John ‘Bobby’ Ogola, who were part of the Gor Mahia team that won the CAF Winners’ Cup in 1987.

Other leaders who attended the match included Kisumu Governor, Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, Leader of the Majority in Senate, Kipchumba Murkomen and Senators Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi) and Cleophas Malala (Kakamega).

In the well-attended match, Gor Mahia battled to a 0-0 draw in regular time and finally lost to the English based side 4-3 on penalties.

Fans of all walks rallied behind Gor, and the team did not disappoint, putting in a worthy performance.

This was the second time Gor played an English opposition, after playing against Everton last year in Tanzania, where they still played a good match.

They now shift focus to their next assignment, which will be a continental tie on Wednesday in Nairobi.
