Former Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba is among leaders picked by Jubilee Party to head campaigns for President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the fresh presidential election.

Ababu unsuccessfully defended his MP seat on a Labour Party of Kenya ticket on August 8 after losing to ODM’s Raphael Wanjala.

Among those who will team up with the former ODM secretary general are MPs Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Dan Wanyama (Webuye West) and John Waluke (Sirisia).

Others are former MPs Musikari Kombo (Webuye), Arthur Odera (Teso North), Fred Gumo (Westlands), Mary Emaase (Teso South), Noah Wekesa (Kwanza) and former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga. Also in the list is Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

At least 70 leaders from the counties of Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, Busia and Trans Nzoia met President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto at State House Nairobi on Tuesday to strategise on how the campaigns will be conducted.

Western region is principally an opposition stronghold having overwhelmingly voted for opposition leader Raila Odinga in 2013 and 2017.

NASA principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula come from the vote rich region.

Raila during the August 8 presidential poll garnered majority votes in the former Western Province.
