Mr Namwamba cited frustrations as the major reason behind his exit and accused party leader Raila Odinga of betraying his loyalty.

An aspiring South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro has defended Namwamba saying the former SG was a target by top ODM leaders who viewed him as a threat.

“Namwamba was one of the loyal ODM members and his loyalty is unquestionable. He has stood with Odinga on many occasions and I don’t think the criticism he is facing is genuine,” he said.

“He started National Identification Card registration; nomination reforms among others something that could have angered a number of top ODM leaders. Due to the strength of his position, he was viewed as a threat but the issue of being a mole is just but a creation of some people,” he said.

He also questioned the creation of Political Affairs Secretary and Director of Election, dockets that previously fell under the Secretary General position.

“His SG docket was completely dismantled because key functions like political affairs were transferred and even elections. This actually rendered him powerless," he said.
