The Council of Kenyan Professionals (CKP) leader Ababu Namwamba has lashed out at the National super alliance (Nasa) over cases of violence experienced in its strongholds on Thursday during the repeat presidential election.

Speaking on Sunday, Namwamba accused Nasa of using violence and intimidation to precipitate a coalition government.

“We have noted with great concern the politically motivated violence caused by opposition supporters in Mathare, Kibera, Kawangware and four counties perceived to be opposition strongholds. We condemn with the strongest terms possible such acts of hooliganism,” Namwamba said during a media briefing.

He also called on par to consider making voting compulsory for all eligible voters to discourage cases of low voter turnout.

“We regret that the right to vote came under severe threat during the just concluded election. We believe making voting compulsory will defeat political manipulation, violence, and intimidations and protect the right to vote,” Namwamba said.
