The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has denied knowledge of Ababu Namwamba’s resignation from his Secretary General position in the party.
In a statement sent to newsrooms written by the party’s director of communication Phillip Etale, ODM stated that Namwamba who is the Secretary General of the party has not handed in the resignation letter despite news in the media that he has resigned from the post.
The statement further indicated that: “The appointment of the acting Secretary General of the Party in the event of a vacancy is not a reserve of the Party Leader or any other official of the party.”
Etale added that the Central Committee has to meet then make recommendations to the NEC for consideration.
“If it is true that Mr. Namwamba has resigned as reported in the media and subsequently hands in the resignation letter, the Central Committee will then meet Tuesday 12th July 2016 followed by the NEC meeting on Thursday 14th July 2016 to discuss the matter and make the necessary decision,” said Etale.
He stated that any other information to the contrary should be treated as mere speculation.
