Orange Democratic Movement party Secretary General Ababu Namwamba spearheaded demonstrations against the embattled IEBC commissioners in South Nyanza town of Kisii as calls for the disbandment of the commission increased.
The demonstrations are being spearheaded by opposition Cord under the leadership of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking during the protests, Mr. Namwamba accused Jubilee of planned rigging of elections by allegedly protecting the current commissioners.
“The Jubilee government is planning to rig elections and this is what Cord is fighting against. We want to see free, fair and democratic elections where every side will be satisfied with the outcome and that are a must,” he said.
“It beats logic that many stakeholders’ wants the IEBC to be reconstituted but the government is hell bent on this grave issue. We all want peace and peace will only be realized if we all join hands and remove the commission that has already taken sides,” he added.
He urged Kenyans to push for the removal of the commission and accused it of setting a wrong precedence by openly showing its bias to the Cord coalition.
“As Kenyans, we must remain actively engaged in the demonstrations because it’s provided in our constitution. The commission has set a bad precedent by openly showing biases and time has come for them to leave office. It’s my wish that Jubilee government joins our calls to have the commission disbanded,” he said.
