Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Ababu Namwamba has backed Deputy President William Ruto's presidential ambition for the 2022 general elections.
In an interview on Citizen Extra Monday, the former Budalang'i lawmaker pledged full support of the bid, vowing to dedicate all his energy towards ensuring that it materializes.
He observed that the Deputy President is Kenyans' best bet, saying that he has earned the right to fly the Jubilee Party flag in the contest and will as well clinch the seat.
''What my preference is if you ask me come 2022, I would tell you without a doubt is that Deputy President William Ruto has earned his space,'' Namwamba is quoted by the Citizen Digital.
Namwamba also defended President Kenyatta over allegations of misuse of power.
The President was recently subjected to questioning by a section of opposition leaders, who inquired the mechanism by which he introduced the new CAS positions, with the young MP saying that the move is constitutional.
He noted that as the President, Kenyatta is free to introduce any office in the public service provided that he gets a nod from the Public Service Commission.
''This position is created under article 132(4A). That article gives the president the power to constitute any office in the public service provided that is done with the Public Service Commission,'' he is further quoted.
