Council of Governors chairman Josephat Nanok has defended governors over claims that they have failed to curb food crisis in their respective counties.
This is after Deputy President William Ruto accused the governors of doing nothing to prevent the food crisis, saying agriculture is a devolved function.
“Counties have failed and we have been forced, as the National government, to continue supporting agriculture by offering subsidized seeds and fertilisers to farmers,” Ruto said, Friday, during a rally in Likoni, Mombasa county.
Nanok instead challenged the Jubilee administration to give reasons why it had taken too long to stabilise food costs adding that it had deliberately starved counties.
He asked the government not to politicise the matter.
“Although this is campaign season, the government should own up and not shift blame to county governments,” said Nanok in a statement, Sunday.
