Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations on Friday, in Lodwar Town, Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok and Turkana Central MP John Lodepe announced that there would be no demonstrations in Lodwar during the repeat presidential poll. The call comes a few days after NASA leader Raila Odinga announced that there will be demonstrations on October 26, a date scheduled for the repeat presidential race which Mr Odinga withdrew.Nanok stated that peaceful demonstrations were allowed in the Constitution but should be held in other towns, not Lodwar.Nanok, who is currently the chairman of the Council of Governors(CoG) was reelected on an ODM ticket. The leaders, however, maintained that they would not participate in the elections. They called upon president Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga to dialogue to avoid creating unnecessary tension in the country.“President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr (Raila) Odinga should put the country first and negotiate so that there is peace in the country,” stated Nanok. The NASA leader claimed that resignation of IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe was an indication there was interference within the commission by State House.
