The Chairman of Council of Governors (COG) of Kenya, Josphat Nanok hailed women governors during the Governors Induction Workshop in Kwale.
the country has only three female governors out of 47.
Hon. Nanok, who is also Turkana County Governor, said women county bosses in the house were the first women in the history of Kenya to occupy gubernatorial seats.
Hon was speaking after welcoming President Kenyatta to officially open the meeting set to take three days.
The COG Chairman hoped that their tenacity could set a stage for more women to run for the governorship in the future elections.
He cited that it was because of the three that made other women in the country believe that leadership was never determined on gender grounds.
“You will be recorded in history as the first women governors Kenya has ever had. It was no mean feat. You have given hope to all the women in this country that leadership is never and will never be about gender,” said the COG Chairman as quoted on his twitter handle (@COGChairman).
Hon. Joyce Laboso, Charity Ngilu and former minister for devolution, Anne Waiguru are the only female governors in the country. They were all elected during the August 8th Election.
