Taveta MP Naomi Shaban has made a U-turn on her earlier decision to retire from active politics.
Speaking on Tuesday, the veteran politician who is keen to sway the Coast region that overwhelmingly voted for the opposition in 2013, said that her retirement decision was premature as she has not nurtured anyone from the area to take over her.
Shaban said she has been pressured by her constituents not to retire owing to her good development record as a lawmaker.
"Many people visited my home and persuaded me not to retire. Many did not welcome the idea that I should retire from politics at this time because of the good work I have done for them. I respect the wish of my people," she said.
Shaban who is the Jubilee Party point-woman in the region, asked the residents to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid, saying that the government of the day has done much for the county.
Having been in the game for some time now, the lawmaker exuded confidence that she will easily edge out her opponents for the seat come August, despite clinching the position four years ago by a narrow margin.
