A businessman in Narok has committed suicide after losing Sh9,000 in sports betting.
Friends of the deceased said the victim, Joseph Kariuki, was depressed after the loss.
"We heard he had placed a Sh9,000 bet on Tuesday evening but he lost. This frustrated him. He felt dejected and hanged himself using a rope," John Odhiambo, Kariuki’s friend said.
The caretaker of the premises where Kariuki lived said he peeped through his window after he failed to open the door and saw his body hanging from a rope.
One of his neighbours told the Standard that Kariuki had tried to commit suicide in the past.
The businessman, who is said to have incurred heavy losses during the flash floods in Narok Town in April 2015, reportedly survived in the past after taking poison.
