The Opposition coalition NASA and its affiliates could be deregistered should a petition filed to the registrar of political parties sail through.

Council of Professionals of Kenya, who filed the petition, claim that NASA has been converted to a resistance movement which does not adhere to the rule of law.

In a letter addressed to the registrar chair Lucy Ndung'u, they argued that NASA's leadership was using 'militia led protests' and were therefore in breach of the constitution and Political Parties Act.

Through their chairman Ababu Namwamba, the council told the registrar to deregister Wiper, ODM, and FORD Kenya.

"We, by this petition, humbly beseech yourself to invoke your powers and commence investigations and disciplinary proceedings that may lead to the process of deregistering the NASA coalition, its militia group NRM and affiliate political parties," read the letter.
