It almost two weeks since the nurses in Kenya downed their tools thus crippling services in most public hospitals with the bone of contention being that their(Nurses) collective bargaining agreement(CBA) has not been honored.
A blame game has also ensued between the Council of Governors and the Salaries and remuneration commission (SRC) with both claiming they have played their rightful part to end the strike.
However, according to blogger and political analyst Mutua Ndonga, President Uhuru Kenyatta, Council of governors, and SRC are not to blame but he hints the NASA influence in the strike.
"Uhuru has not sat back and watched poor Kenyans, who cannot afford private hospital fees, suffer and lose their lives. He has urged the Council of Governors to speedily resolve the crisis. To the medical personnel, he has reminded them of their oath, which is to save people's lives first," said Ndonga.
"The role of the SRC, which is created by the Constitution, is to guide and advise on remunerations for all categories of state and public workers," he added.
Striking Nurses in Kitale kneel down close to the gates of the County Government.According to the analyst, Kenya national Union of Nurses secretary general Seth Panyako went above the union's rules and regulations to ask nurses to go on strike.
"First, the secretary general can only ask members to go on strike after receiving the go-ahead by the union’s top organs—National Governing Council and National Executive Committee. Reports indicate Panyako did not seek this approval," said Ndonga.
Secondly, Ndonga sees the hand of NASA leadership in the strike as he claims there is a close relationship between Panyako and the NASA luminaries.
"I have strong reason to believe NASA has a hand in the strike. Media reports indicate Panyako is a member of ODM. The party has cleared him to run for Kakamega senator," said Ndonga.
the analyst also alleged that NASA is not ready accept defeat again in 2017 thus they have reverted to 'political games' to ensure Uhuru is not reelected.
"Panyako, whom many believe is helping Raila, is in for a rude shock. Going by the numbers, Raila does not stand a chance of winning," said Ndonga.
