[Photo|Gladys Wanga]Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has expressed disappointment after the National Super Alliance (Nasa) asked its supporters to boycott products and services of some companies.Below is Kinyanjui's statement about the same, Saturday."Rethink product boycottThe recent call for product boycott by NASA leadership is unfortunate and uncalled for. While at the surface value it may appear, laughable and unrealistic, the overall impact of its implementation will divide the country deeper than we ever thought. This is why:For majority of Kenyans, the quest to meet basic needs is a daily struggle that often goes unmet. We are more interested in the cost of Unga than the company producing it. Indeed, for many Kenyans, the world of privilege and options does not exist. With boycott targeting specific products, and companies, it would be expected that persons with contrary political affiliations working for these companies would eventually be target for layoffs.Distributors and stockists for these products will also be rendered redundant. Why would affected companies continue supporting a group of people who are actively working for their downfall. Massive layoffs coming for perceived sympathisers. Taken to its logical conclusion, product boycott would be faced by a retaliation of a similar kind. In effect, as you boycott products from specific companies, expect a similar response from other regions that will be adversely affected by the boycott.A farmer who has to reduce his supply to the milk factory due to product boycott, will find it difficult take his pickup to Omondis garage. The net effect will be both Omondi and the farmer going hungry. What will happen to the great panel beaters of Kariobangi? It is a cruel joke to drag Kenyans to deeper economic mess in order to address political interests. We urge NASA leadership to seek political solutions to their challenges and stop using the innocent population as cannon fodder. The Nation is in urgent need for healing and economic reconstruction. The long electioneering period has left many businesses on their knees. Actions that seek to aggrevate the situation are akin to economic suicide. It's time we come together for a better Kenya, for all of us."
