The National Super Alliance (NASA) is currently experiencing wrangles after the make-up of President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga. The other NASA leaders Moses Wetang'ula, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi feel 'betrayed' by Raila for engaging in the meeting without involving them.
The NASA coalition is made up of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Wiper, Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford-Kenya parties with all the party leaders being recognized as principals within the coalition's leadership.
However, the recent political happenings in the country have left the coalition shaken up with the other parties in the coalition calling on ODM to leave because of the truce between Uhuru and Raila. In their view, the coalition can move on without the indulgence of ODM in the coalition's activities.
What the other parties seem to forget is the overwhelming number Raila's party has in all the elective posts in the country. In the coalition, ODM topples the other parties in the number of legislators in the National Assembly, Senate and even in the County Assemblies.
If by any chance ODM dissolves its pact with NASA, then the remaining parties within the coalition will get it tough in surviving in the country's political scene.
Whereas they (NASA) are engaging in back and forth concerning who is right and wrong, Jubilee party, on the other hand, is building on the truce between Uhuru and Raila. In fact, the government is already making visits to opposition strongholds and engaging locals and their leaders.
As Wiper, ANC, and Ford-Kenya continue making demands to ODM, they should also remember that they have failed to concur what is perceived as their strongholds. For instance, Wiper has failed to tame Maendeleo Chap Chap in Ukambani, ANC has failed to tame the tame ODM in a majority of Western and as for Ford-Kenya, they cannot even account for any numbers in the various elective political levels.
It is only fair that the three parties realize that they need ODM for the continued survival and growth of the NASA coalition. This way, they will be able to continue planning for future political competitions in the country. If not, then Jubilee seeks to continue dominating the political scene.
