According to Raila, there have been side effects of the drug with up to 5,000 cases so far recorded for women having complications in child delivery.

Mr. Odinga who was speaking yesterday in Nairobi said that the vaccine was meant to sterilize women with a view of reducing the population.

He blamed the current regime of failing to take heed to Catholic Bishops' advice that one-third of the vaccine contained a hormone meant for birth control.

"At that time, the Ministry of health rubbished the statement but since then, most of those involved have been suffering", said the Opposition leader.

According to him, females aged between 19 to 49 years all over the country might be affected and so far, the government has been sidelining the issue.

In 2015, the Ministry of Health said that the drug which was administered in collaboration with World Health Organisation (WHO) was safe and met all the health requirements, downplaying Catholic clergy remarks, saying their doctors did not use proper methodology.
