The national assembly Jubilee affiliated members have suffered a setback over the failure to constitute parliamentary committees of the two Houses, prompting adjournment a day after they resumed business.
MPs will leave all matters pending for another three weeks and will resume on November 29, a period after which the leadership of both the Majority and Minorities will be expected to form critical house committees.
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has disclosed that they were facing challenges in dealing with matters brought to their attention by members of the public as some required to be dedicated to House committees yet to be created.
“My office has received many petitions but my hands remain tied as they cannot be handed out without first being tackled by the committees,” Muturi told the house.
He confirmed that NASA coalition had sought an extension of time for them to organize their house leadership, a move that may have also informed the decision for the extended recess given that without the leadership they cannot have members in the committees.
Speaker Kenneth Lusaka on the other and gave the NASA coalition two weeks to present their leadership line-up to allow progress at the Senate after turning down their plea to have an additional one month.
