The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader Isaac Ruto has officially joined the National Super Alliance (Nasa). The Bomet governor made the announcement, Tuesday, after a meeting with the Kipsigis Council of Elders.
The elders were mandated to initiate talks with both Nasa and Jubilee coalitions, before deciding which side of the political divide, should Ruto's party support ahead of the August 8, polls.
After the meeting that was held at Ruto's office in Bomet county, he officially announced his new political move, and would be received into the Nasa coalition, by co-principals Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) at a rally in Nakuru, Sunday.
The former Council of Governors (CoG) chairman now becomes Nasa's fifth co-principal, after the four, who signed a pact, to stay united in the coalition, and ensure they win in the elections, to form Kenya's fifth government.
Ruto is expected to join his new partners, in quest to find the Nasa flag-bearer.
CCM which was formed after Ruto defected from Deputy president William Ruto's URP, which later merged to form Jubilee, enjoys wide support from the South Rift region, Narok, Nakuru, and other parts of the Rift Valley region.
Ruto's new move is a major blow to Jubilee, since it divides Rift Valley votes, which Jubilee boasts of.
