National Super Alliance leaders have said there will be no election on October 26 if the IEBC does not meet their demands.
Commenting after meeting IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati on Tuesday, Siaya senator James Orengo said the commission had not met the opposition's irreducible minimum demands.
“The Supreme Court didn’t rule elections must be held on 26th. We insist our irreducible minimums must be met for purposes of having an election, and in accordance with the Constitution. The best that has happened is that we will have another meeting and expect Commission will respond substantially to issues raised. If we go the route set out by Commission, elections will be held within 60 days but it will not be held in accordance with the law,” Orengo said, as quoted by The Standard.
However, Chebukati while addressig the press after meeting both Jubilee and Nasa leaders, said the meetings were successful and elections will be held as scheduled.
Deputy president William Ruto who led the Jubilee brigade said they were happy with IEBC's progress in preparation for the fresh poll.
