The push and pull between electoral body IEBC and opposition leaders continued on Thursday, with the latter insisting that presidential election results announced at the polling stations should be final.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had moved to the Court of Appeal to challenge the High Court’s ruling, which Nasa principals seem to be happy with.
On Thursday, Nasa leaders warned the elections agency that they will reject any results other than those declared at the polling stations.
The IEBC is seeking to have its chairman, Wafula Chebukati, declare the final presidential results, and not the constituency Returning Officers as demanded by Nasa.
Addressing the press at Orange House, ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohammed said the coalition was committed to protecting its votes against any rigging.
Junet revealed that Nasa had constituted a five-member committee for each polling station with clear instructions to relay results once they are announced by presiding officers.
The Suna East MP said they do not expect the IEBC to announce difference results from those that they receive from their polling station agents.
“NASA has committed to protect it votes. We are extremely serious about this. We will not allow dead voters to rise and cast the ballot for Uhuru Kenyatta. We will not allow IEBC to announce two sets of results for the same presidential candidate,” said Junet, according to The Standard.
He added that Nasa will have a parallel tallying center to prevent manipulation of results.
Nasa’s Raila Odinga will face off with Jubilee’s President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 general election.
