Newly elected Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja continues to battle a case that he accused of forging a degree certificate that he presented before vying for the seat.
According to information from the Kenyatta University, where Samboja claims to have acquired his certificates, the governor has never been a student in the institution.
In the case filed by one Armstrong Kiwoi, a voter, the governor is accused of providing false documents, including a fake degree certificate.
The voter has also sued the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, for accepting the degree presented by Samboja.
According to documents provided by Samboja, he studied at the said university between 2002 and 2009.
The university’s lawyerAwi Kibet has defended his client, saying there are no records indicating the governor was at the institution.
“Granton Samboja did not graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in the year 2009, or a Diploma in Human Resource Management, or a certificate in Project Management from Kenyatta University as by the copies sent to us by the EACC and the certificates were and are fake,” said the lawyer.
