Lamu Governor Issa Timamy is campaigning for the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta. Governor Timamy, who is a member of Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC), a key coalition member of the National Super Alliance (NASA), says President Kenyatta's development record is very strong in Lamu County. “A party is not a religion, I must campaign for Uhuru,” the governor said, as quoted by the Standard, to the surprise of many. “My support for Uhuru is due to the development he has brought for my people. He has also shown that despite getting few votes from Lamu, he is determined to bring development to the area,” he said. Mr Timamy is not the only NASA-allied governor to support President Kenyatta’s bid for re-election; it follows the recent decision by Kitui Senator David Musila and National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze to back the Jubilee candidate for his good development record. The Lamu governor added: “Why should I not support Uhuru yet it is during his first term that residents of Lamu, who lived as squatters, got title deeds, making them land owners?”
