Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has vowed to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's efforts in ending corruption.
Speaking during the Makueni prayer breakfast on Monday, the Wiper Party governor said if the lifestyle audit is properly done and the results published, it can yield positive results against corruption and anything undeserved recovered.
"I want to declare my support to Uhuru Kenyatta in the fight against corruption. This vice is not easy to fight. If the lifestyle audit is properly done and the results published, it can yield positive results against this dragon and anything undeserved recovered," the governor posted on Twitter.
President Kenyatta had ordered the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to conduct a lifestyle audit for public servants, including himself and Deputy President William Ruto.
The president's order has received mixed reactions, with some politicians saying it will lead to a witchhunt.
"I have only one problem with lifestyle audit. We will 'lose' our helicopters, highrise buildings, NYS tenders etc. There is nothing a Kenyan voter hates than a poor politician," Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said "sarcastically" via Twitter on Friday.
Kapseret legislator Oscar Sudi on Saturday challenged the president to also include his late father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, in the wealth review.
"We are with the president on this, in fact, more than 100 percent. We ask everyone to submit to the audit including political leaders and their families. We will start with Mzee Jomo, then follow with him and the rest of us," Sudi said during the burial of Raymond Kipchumba, a GSU officer, at Chepkoiya village in Uasin Gishu.
