Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja on Thursday cast his ballot at Mwakishimba primary school despite opposition’s poll boycott calls. Addressing journalists shortly after casting his vote, the Governor said it is his democratic right to take part in the exercise, adding that the exercise has been going on smoothly in the county. “The process was smooth. I want to tell all Kenyans that voting is a democratic right of every Kenyan as enshrined in the constitution and no one can be stopped from exercising it,” said Samboja.Samboja further urged residents to turn out in large numbers to vote.He also asked opposition supporters who do not wish to vote to remain at home and maintain peace. This comes amid claims that the Wiper Governor had 'ditched' the opposition after he welcomed President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto during a Jubilee campaign rally in his backyard.“I’m here as the county president to welcome the national President. I’m not interested in cheap politics. What concerns me is the development of our county and alleviating poverty. When my party leader comes here, I’ll welcome him. There is nothing bad in welcoming our leaders in the county. We have to stop divisive politics,” said Samboja during a Jubilee rally in Voi on October 11, 2017.NASA leader on Wednesday urged his supporters to boycott the repeat presidential polls, arguing that there was no need of taking part in an already predetermined election.
