Taita-Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has nominated a Jubilee politician to his cabinet.

Samboja proposed Janet Oben to be the County Executive Committee member in charge of Public Service and Administration.

The county boss has already forwarded the nominee's name to the Taita-Taveta county assembly for vetting.

Samboja was elected on a Wiper party ticket, which is an affiliate party of NASA coalition.

Oben was defeated by the incumbent Women Representative Lydia Haika during the Jubilee Party primaries conducted in May 2017.

She suffered defeat again during the election of county assembly speaker at the hands of Meshack Maganga who is allied to Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

County Assembly Clerk Micheal Ngala confirmed that his office had already received Oben's name for vetting.

"Members of the public are invited to attend the county assembly Public Appointment Committee sittings for approval hearings and/or submit any information or comments on the suitability or otherwise of the candidate," Ngala said in a notice seen by The Standard on Monday.

The nomination of Oben, who is expected to be vetted on Friday, comes at a time when Samboja had been under heavy criticism from the opposition for going to bed with Jubilee administration.

"The nomination of the Jubilee politician is a clear manifestation that the governor has embraced the Jubilee government," Raphael Mwawughanga, county ODM organising secretary, told The Standard.

Samboja, however, has laughed off the claims saying he promised his constituents an all-inclusive government that would represent the face of the county.
