[Photo| Courtesy]Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, has slammed President Donald Trump's US government, for allegedly failing to acknowledge NASA's efforts to ensure democracy in the country, before October 26, presidential polls."Kenya’s current fractured politics points to a simple fact; a sham election on October 26th or any attempt to institute dictatorship and force submission, will lead to mass resistance, Kenya is not Uganda or Zimbabwe. More probable is that the NASA Coalition will boycott the Oct 26th elections. The US runs the risk of losing credibility and leverage in intervening if the Kenyan situation spirals out of control. What is the logic behind turning a blind eye to the regime’s human rights abuses, corruption, electoral malpractice, even when busted by the Supreme Court? There is the legacy of Barack Obama and the land of his father. Obama rode into office on a wave of enthusiasm encapsulated in the hopeful slogan ‘Yes We Can’. Kenya was rapturous. It is now a legitimate question whether he sold his father’s country’s democratic progress down the drain to promote US big business, read Bechtel deal.Or whether to the Kenyan people’s hope for a free society, new constitution, free press, devolution, the Obama era ended with a paradoxical ‘No You Can’t!’ manifested by the current ‘see and hear no evil’ US policy, the potential return to authoritarianism, and possible death of the institutional democratic renaissance that the September 1st Kenya Supreme Court ruling had breathed across Kenya and the African continent .The writing is on the wall – the repeat poll on October 26th, may be as shambolic, if not worse."
