Newly elected Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja faces a battle to prove his academic qualifications, with claims emerging that he has fake academic papers.

The governor, who was sworn in early this week, has denied the claims that he holds a fake degree from Kenyatta University.

Taita Taveta Governor Granton Graham Samboja has denied claims that he holds a fake degree from Kenyatta University.

“I went to Mwakishimba Primary School in Taita-Taveta in Taita Taveta and finished in 1990. I then joined Ngangao Secondary School and obtained a D plain.” He said in a statement he sent to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

He added: I enrolled for a certificate course in in project management at Kenyatta University through distance learning  in January 2002, and later studied for a Diploma in Human Resource Management at the same college in 2003,”

His statement was once again thrown into question, after Kenyatta University disowned Samboja’s claims through a letter which was signed by acting vice chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina on April 24.

“This is to inform you that there are no records in the university to indicate that Granton Samboja of ID number 1254***1 was a student of Kenyatta University and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2009.

“From the above, therefore, Mr Granton Graham Samboja was not a student of Kenyatta University during the period referred in your letter.”

EACC had asked the High Court last month to disqualify Samboja on grounds of forgery.
