National Super Alliance (NASA) flagbearer Raila Odinga pulled out of the repeat presidential election citing certain problems within the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that he believed will not guarantee free, fair and credible election. And on Wednesday, NASA transformed itself to a resistance movement aimed at 'defending' the constitution.
For a long while now, the opposition has called on its supporters to reject the Jubilee administration which they believe has failed to address issues affecting country. In their view, the opposition believed that Kenyans at large should elect them and realise exponential growth under their leadership.
However, the opposition and its supporters made a big mistake by boycotting the repeat presidential election on Thursday. They missed an opportunity to vote out a regime they believe has not served Kenyans well for the last four and half years. This an opportunity that may have to wait for for the next five years.
In its ruling annulling the August presidential election results, the Supreme Court was categorical that if any of the irregularities or illegalities are repeated in this presidential election then they will still annul the outcome of the election.
The opposition should have thus engaged in this repeat poll and in case of any discrepancies, they then present their claims to the Supreme Court. Nonetheless, they (NASA) should not blame anyone for their failure to engage in an activity that may have been a solution to their governance claims.
