After a well-attended Rally in Deputy President William Ruto’s Eldoret home, the National Super Alliance will take its campaigns to Meru, a region perceived to be President Uhuru Kenyatta’s home turf.

Despite continuous political activities within the opposition however, they are yet to settle on a single candidate to take on Kenyatta in August.

But ODM chairman John Mbadi, intimated that the opposition will have chosen a candidate by mid-March this year.

“We have done much more with the technical committee and the remaining bit about the flag bearer, we shall have concluded by March,” he told reporters last week.

The Meru rally, which comes barely a month after opposition leader Raila Odinga toured the region, is expected to formally introduce the alliance to Mt. Kenya region.

“We are planning to reach all corners of this nation and Meru is very strategic for us. We will use the occasion to introduce the alliance to locals,” said ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale.

However, dwindling Miraa farming business could also dominate the Monday’s rally given that Odinga, emphasized on the business when he toured the region last.

On Tuesday, the crew is expected to tour Tharaka Nithi County, which has also witnessed  mass defections from Jubilee government.
